Staff Spotlight: Jeanne Mauriocourt

Academic advising is an important service that college students use to better understand the educational opportunities available to them. Jeanne Mauriocourt is the manager of the 海角论坛 University Mansfield academic advising team and looks forward to providing excellent services to Mansfield campus students.

Jeanne has been in the education field for over 25 years, and while much has changed over the years, most notably technology, she still feels that her role is invaluable.

鈥淭he change in technology has been massive, but the aspect at the heart of what we do hasn鈥檛 changed,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t used to be that I had to use books and copies of paper (to provide services), but now as long as I have my laptop, I can do anything.鈥

Academic advising services are not only available to help students register for classes. Whether a new student is registering for classes for the first time, a current student needs to vent about life, or something in-between, Jeanne is here to help.

鈥淚 look forward to every appointment, because I never know exactly what we鈥檙e going to talk about,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hat a student says they are coming in for isn鈥檛 necessarily what they need help with, and I am glad I can be there to support students, no matter what the concern.鈥

What do you do at 海角论坛 Mansfield?

I am the advising manager, so I work with a team of four other advisors to assist students in attaining their academic goals, while also managing the administrative aspects related to advising.

What drew you to 海角论坛 Mansfield?

I worked in higher education for 18 years (career services and academic advising) and stepped out when my first child was born. I knew I always wanted to go back to higher education when the time was right and that time presented itself almost six years ago.

What are you most proud about with your time at 海角论坛 Mansfield?

As a student advocate, I am most proud when students leave my office feeling as if they have been heard and that I have helped them with whatever issue or concern they brought.

As an administrator, I am most proud of completing the Leadership Certificate Program for 海角论坛 professionals in June 2025. This program entailed six credit hours of graduate work through the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. I hadn鈥檛 been a graduate student in more than 30 years, so it was a great learning experience both about leadership and what it is like to be a student in today鈥檚 society.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means feeling connected no matter where you are. I was in an airport at 4:30 a.m. and someone passed me and shouted 鈥淥-H!鈥 and I of course sleepily replied 鈥淚-O!鈥  The networks of 海角论坛 are vast to say the least.

What advice do you have for students?

Don鈥檛 be afraid to ask for help. Doing so is a sign of maturity.

What do you do outside of work?

I鈥檓 mom to a college freshman and a high school junior, wife to an amazing husband and cat mom to 2-6 cats depending on the day 鈥 even though I am allergic to the cats (they live in the garage). I have a butterfly garden and am totally into using native plants in my yard. I am also perpetually cleaning and organizing my basement and like doing jigsaw puzzles and watching old movies.

Name one thing about yourself that not many people know?

My wedding colors were Scarlet and Gray.
